This view starts out looking south toward the Waldo-Hancock County Bridge, which connects the Island of Verona with the mainland coastal highway of U.S.Route 1, just south of Fort Knox State Park at Penobscot Bay. We then turn to the west for a view upriver at the industrial architecture of Bucksport's paper mill and the western end the harbor walk that runs parallel to Main Street.

One sure sign of spring in Chicago is the annual weekend call for ''boats out,'' when sailors navigate the Chicago River to reach the boat harbors on Lake Michigan. The bridge operators watch for approaching boats and maneuver a series of counterweights to raise and lower the bridge spans.

Somesville is one of the small towns near Bar Harbor, on Penobscot Bay. This little pedestrian bridge has become an icon for the state of Maine. Everything around it seems to shift as the seasons change.
