According to the American Heritage Dictionary, Transposition is the act or an instance of transposing. To alter in form or nature; transform.

Family Snapshot 4'- 0" x 5'- 7" Digital Print 2006-07
In this one-man show, i will be displaying photographic panoramas of landscapes, cityscapes, and interiors taken in Chicago, Texas, New York, and Maine.
Scale is my main point of interest: Some of the panoramas measure 2 feet by 10 feet and capture more than the eye can see-and in perfect focus.
That focus plus time and the interplay of two and three dimensions hint
at the meaning behind the title of the show. As i finish each piece, i will include a paragraph on the "transposition" within the work:

Camden Maine
This piece could also be called "ode to an elm tree." The photos were taken just before our 120-year-old backyard elm was cut down.
On a fall day at Morton Arboretum, a light wind lifts the leaves and the colors change. There are almost as many photographers here as birds.
Along a bend in the river on San Antonio's River Walk. In April, during the 10 days of Fiesta, the river is transformed into a giant light show when the city holds a nighttime boat parade.
You can't go to San Antonio and not take at least one shot of the Alamo. I took 183 photos; you're looking at most of them.
South Freeport, Maine-a working waterfront located only a mile or so from the bustling outlet stores in Freeport, home to L.L. Bean.
Update on the Panorama Workshop of Oct 27
When i started this piece, i had a completely different concept in mind; this piece however took on a life of its own and soon transposed my 'vertically oriented formal triptych', into the composite you see before you. Sometimes the elements of an image dictate their own arrangement and all you can do is listen.
420 N Halsted is the approximate address of this, my show title piece. I think i chose it [Transposition] because it had a dozen letters that flowed out like a panorama and played with a space that today is transposed by new buildings on Desplaines St to the east that take up the middle of that space. In the show this piece takes up both sides of the front wall, neg on one side and pos on the other. You might say that the thickness of the wall is a stand-in for those buildings.

Camen Maine 2'- 0" x 6'- 9" Digital Print July 2007
Ground fog along the coast of Maine comes rolling in at any time of day and transposes the green garden landscape into white cotton candy. So here we are, caught in an aoristic moment (either coming or going). ...o o-o but it's fun to watch from the top of Mt. Battie!
